Olof Koskela, a family's only son, is driven from home when he wants to marry the wrong girl. He takes a job as a floater. His reputation as a womanizer goes far and wide. When he meets the proud Kyllikki, he enters into a bet to defeat the mighty rapids while standing on a log.

A glib log driver, Olavi, keeps sowing his wild oats. When the time comes for him to settle down he finds it difficult to trust anyone in view of his fickle past.

Olof and Elly falls in love. Relatives and friends are disturbed by this. When Olof decides to leave the village and work as floater, Elly wants to come along. He asks her to stay and wait for his return.

The farm girl Hilja falls meet Yrjö, a student visiting the country side. They fall madly in love, which leads to consequences.
