Nine-year-old Slávek is going through a difficult period. His passion is model aeroplanes, but he will only be able to join the modelling club in two years' time. His parents are too busy to spend time with him. His friendship with his neighbour Vítka saves him from loneliness. Under Vítka's influence, he falls in with a gang of hooligans. A new tenant moves into their building — Mr Yanitsky — a former pilot and parachutist who owns a collection of model aeroplanes. Under his influence, Slavek distances himself from the bullies. Yanitsky helps him with his hobby, and together they build a model aeroplane called ‘Hummingbird’...
