After the May 1968 uprisings in France, a young woman named Graziella moves to a remote house in the Norman countryside to contemplate the events.

From the behavior, discourse, and appearance of individual actors, Vachek composes, in the form of a mosaic, a broad and many-layered film-argument about Czechoslovak democracy in the period of its rebirth, all administered with the director’s ini­mitable point of view.

Against a dark background, several bright, curved or rounded shapes pulse towards the center of the screen, one at a time. They are followed by many other shapes, some irregular, some pointed, others rounded. The abstract shapes move into or across the screen in harmony with the musical score.

What makes the film striking is its rich imagery, superbly photographed in dark-hued tones, and its insistent visual rhythms.
